Welcome to the Warwick Police Department

The Warwick Police Department was established in 1921.  Prior to that the villages of Warwick were policed by constables and sheriffs since 1648.  The department currently has 172 sworn police officers supported by 53 civilian employees that provide municipal policing services to a residential population of 81,000.

Warwick Police Department Headlines

Colonel Stephen McCartney, Warwick Police Chief, was inducted into the Rhode Island Criminal Justice Hall of Fame last night.  The ceremony was conducted at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.  Col McCartney served with the Providence Police Department, attaining the rank of Major, for 27 years before being named the Chief of Police in Warwick in 1999.  The Colonel was accompanied by the Warwick Police Honor Guard, shown left to right: Officers Steve Nelson, Christian Vargas, Bob Hart, Greg Johnson and Damian Andrews.
