Warwick Police Officers use Narcan during Traffic Stop

On 1/7/16 at 0037 Hrs Officer Daniel DiMaio stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Post Rd. and Pettaconsett Ave in the city of Warwick and was assisted by Sergeant John McAniff. Officers noted that the operator of the vehicle, Robert Gamble 2/8/86 of 40 Stadden St. Apt 1 Providence RI appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and a passenger in the car was unconscious and was unable to be aroused.

Officer DiMaio and Sgt. McAniff were recently trained in the use of Naloxone and the signs and symptoms of a person who is overdosing on opiates. A rescue was summoned to the scene but the Officers noted the unconscious mans eyes were rolled back in his head and his breathing was shallow. Under Sgt. McAniff's direction Officer DiMaio administered an internasal dose of Naloxone which brought the passenger back to consciousness.

The passenger was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital for treatment and the operator, Robert Gamble was arrested for suspicion of DUI and operating on a suspended drivers license.
