Warwick Police Mourn the Loss of One of their Finest

butterworth

The Warwick Police mourn the loss of one of their finest. Stanley C. Butterworth, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Our prayers are with him and his family.

Stanley was a 20-year veteran of the Warwick Police Department retiring as a Detective in 1987. He also served as the President of the Warwick FOP Lodge from 1974 to 1976.

Stanley was a Vietnam war hero who received the Bronze Star with Valor for his actions in the first Battle of Khe Sanh Hill 881 South. As a Sgt in the USMC (Company Kilo, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines), he lead his squad across a clearing through intense enemy fire to destroy three enemy bunkers and defeat a counterattack. His commander credited his squad with saving the lives of many US Marines on that day in April of 1967.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, RI on Thursday July 9. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, July 8th from 4-8 p.m., W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside, RI.  Burial with Military Honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence, RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations to "The Wounded Warriors Project" would be greatly appreciated. Visit wrwatsonfuneralhome.com. for online condolences.

She spent 15 years in detectives handling many important investigations and specializing in juvenile sex trafficking in her latter years. She has made a great impact on the fight against crime in Warwick and is well known throughout the RI law enforcement community.
