In the State of Rhode Island, every Police Department is mandated to designate a Senior Police Advocate, who serves as a liaison to the Division of Elderly Affairs on matters of elder abuse, neglect, and self-neglect. Officer Matt Moretti has served in this capacity for the Warwick Police Dept. for the last eight years and instructs Elder Abuse Investigation at both the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy and the Rhode Island State Police Academy.

While every officer in the Warwick Police Dept. is responsible for elder abuse investigations, Officer Morettii serves as an intermediary between the police dept., Division of Elderly Affairs, and the Elder Abuse Unit at the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office to facilitate follow-up on investigations. Officer Moretti conducts lectures on elder abuse and elder safety annually at many senior living complexes and is available to lecture to other community groups and businesses serving the elderly.
