The Warwick Police Department was established in 1921. Prior to that the villages of Warwick were policed by constables and sheriffs since 1648. The department currently has 172 sworn police officers supported by 53 civilian employees that provide municipal policing services to a residential population of 81,000.

On August 17th, at around 8pm, Warwick Police responded to a call at the Fairfax Village Apartment Complex located at 145 Essex Rd. On arrival, police located a parked vehicle which had apparently been idling for several hours. At the time, two occupants were located inside the vehicle and were deceased. Those victims are identified as 39 year old Kathleen Frink and her 3 year old son, Ryan, both of Warwick.
Warwick police: RAP Artists assaulted a man and posted attack on YouTube.
On July 19th, 2013 two men who came to New England to promote a new rap album were arrested by the police in Warwick after they allegedly assaulted a man in the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard and posted the assault on YouTube.
Police said the assault in the motel was just one of two allegedly committed by the pair -- Jacorey Dejuan Bryant, 22, of Atlanta, and Ira Rophiel Malcom Jr., 23, of Lithonia, Ga. -- early Friday morning. The police said that at 2:18 a.m. they responded to the Mobil gas station at 15 Jefferson Blvd. where another male victim reported that he had just been pistol-whipped by the same pair. Members of the Warwick Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team apprehended Bryant and Malcom in the motel room where they were staying.
According to the police, the suspects had been in Massachusetts earlier to promote a rap album under the label SODMG, owned and operated by rapper and artist Soulja Boy.
Malcom was being held Friday on charges of robbery and Bryant was charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of narcotics with intent to deliver, robbery, carrying a pistol without a permit, malicious damage and disorderly conduct.
On July 23, 2013, as result of news video that aired the previous day, Warwick Police Department Detectives received information which led to the arrest of a suspect in a series of liquor store larcenies which were caught on surveillance cameras. On July 12-16, several area liquor stores had been victimized by a suspect stealing specialty vodka. During these thefts, surveillance video showed the suspect placing bottles of “Chiroc” vodka in his pockets and exiting the store. The surveillance video was aired on the evening news yesterday, and as a result, someone identified the suspect involved. Detectives were able to positively identify the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant from the Kent County District Court. The suspect was then arrested at his home on that arrest warrant. The suspect is identified as Tawan Burgess, 32 of Warwick. He was charged with (2) counts of Shoplifting from the Haxton’s Liquor Store at 1222 Bald Hill Road and The Haxton’s West Bay Liquors at 2430 West Shore Road. The suspect’s information was turned over to West Warwick Police Detectives for investigation into a shoplifting from a liquor store in that town as well.
There will be a ceremony Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mayor's Office to recognize Sergeant Alan Valliere and Officer Dale Drowne as State Fire Marshal Chartier, Mayor Avedisian, and Colonel McCartney recognize these officers for their efforts after the Boston Marathon bombing.
Mayor Scott Avedisian and Colonel Stephen McCartney will join State Fire Marshal John "Jack" Chartier as he recognizes the efforts of two city police officers following the Boston Marathon bombing. Chartier will present letters of commendation to Sgt. Allen Valliere and Officer Dale Drowne tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Mayor's Office.
