Police identify bicyclist and operator from crash being investigated on Warwick Avenue

The Warwick Police responded to a car and bicyclist accident in the area of 2000 Warwick Avenue at 2130 hours on July 28, 2015. The Traffic Division's Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. The accident involved one vehicle, a 2005 Nissan Altima, operated by Gina Pineda, a 45 year old female from Warwick and the bicyclist. The bicyclist, identified as Eduard Brum, a 53 year old male from Warwick. Brum was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Warwick Fire Rescue where he is currently listed in Stable condition.

The preliminary investigation disclosed that the vehicle was travelling North on Warwick Avenue in the left lane when the vehicle collided with the bicyclist who initially appears to have been crossing the roadway from the westbound side to eastbound side of Warwick Avenue. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Preliminary investigation shows that speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time. At this time it appears criminal charges are unlikely.

The investigation is on-going and any person with information related to the accident is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division. Please contact Officer Hart (468-4345) who has been assigned as the Lead Investigator.
