WPD Patch Program

Next month, the Warwick Police Department will begin implementing an awareness patch program. Throughout the year, officers will wear special patches on their uniforms representing various causes. These patches will be made available for purchase to the public, and all proceeds will be donated to a charity or organization directly associated with what each patch represents. At this time, the patches will be sold to the public strictly through an online forum and will then be shipped.

The first patch being released is to support Autism Awareness Month in April.  Our goal for this patch is to help raise money to support programs that offer proper training and prevention strategies. We’ve seen some concerning stories across the country where officers did not know how to identify individuals with autism, and may have responded differently if they had more information and training. Funds raised from the sales of the Autism Awareness patches will benefit the National Autism Association, a non-profit focused on addressing urgent issues in the autism community including safety.  The National Autism Association provides first responder training, and offers several programs and resources to families to help prevent emergencies.
