Welcome to the Warwick Police Department

The Warwick Police Department was established in 1921.  Prior to that the villages of Warwick were policed by constables and sheriffs since 1648.  The department currently has 172 sworn police officers supported by 53 civilian employees that provide municipal policing services to a residential population of 81,000.

Warwick Police Department College Internship Program and High School Mentorships to include the Hendricken Experience

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Warwick Police Department’s Internship Program to offer high school and college students, who are interested in a law enforcement career, a rewarding and educational experience.

Purpose Statement

To provide high school and college students the opportunity to explore careers in law enforcement while providing meaningful and practical experiences.

Objectives

The Warwick Police Department is committed to achieving the following learning objectives:

  1. Provide students with experience and direction;
  2. Enhance personal and professional potential;
  3. Raise awareness of day-to-day operations;
  4. Expose students to professional standards and methods used to accomplish organizational objectives;
  5. Augmentation with professional practitioners;
  6. Reinforce knowledge of criminal statutes/procedures, and;
  7. Complete significant projects.  

Qualifications for College Internships

  1. Interns must be 18 years of age or older;
  2. Must be currently enrolled in a college/university criminal justice or related program;
  3. Must be recommended by his/her instructor or staff member of that respective educational institution;
  4. Must successfully pass an application and background check performed by the Warwick Police Department;
  5. Must be willing to complete any and all waiver requests;
  6. Must agree to abide by all program requirements and rules;
  7. No felony convictions;
  8. Shall be drug-free;
  9. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement;

Qualifications for Highs School Mentorships

  1. Must be a senior in the Warwick Public Schools. (out of city students will be considered if slots are open)
  2. Must be recommended by his/her instructor or staff member of that respective educational institution;
  3. Must successfully pass an application and background check performed by the Warwick Police Department;
  4. Must be willing to complete any and all waiver requests;
  5. Must agree to abide by all program requirements and rules;
  6. Shall be drug-free;
  7. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.
