Captain Andrew Tainsh has been employed by the Warwick Police Department since 1995.  He is currently the Officer In Charge of The Administrative Services Division.  He is also the Officer in Charge of the Underwater Search and Recovery Team (U.S.R.T.).  He recently served as the OIC of the Third Platoon Uniform Patrol Division.  During his career he has served the Patrol Division, the Community Policing Unit,  as a Detective Sergeant, and also was a 10 year member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team (S.W.A.T.),  having left the unit as a squad leader on the entry team.

Captain Tainsh also specializes in Driving Under the Influence investigations having been a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor and a Drug Recognition Expert for the past several years.  He has also concurrently served as an adjunct instructor at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy since 2001. He remains a RADAR/LIDAR instructor and TOPS (Traffic Occupant Protection Systems) instructor.

Captain Tainsh holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. He also served in the U.S. Army proudly as an Airborne Infantryman.

In his spare time he enjoys the outdoors, especially Hunting, Fishing, Boating, and coaching his children’s youth baseball teams.
